Riding sand dunes offers a completely different dimension to off roading.  When you ride rocks you have solid footing.  Even dirt and mud offers some stability.  But once you hit the sand you need to keep your rig moving or risk sinking in.

This type of riding draws about thirty I.O.K. families to Silver Lake Michigan every July 4th weekend. Situated on Lake Michigan these dunes offer some of the best sand riding there is.

Normally over forty Jeeps from this club will be here  with about one hundred thirty people. Next to Gravelrama this is considered the largest turn out of membership each year.

While riding the dunes is one of the priorities of this trip it also is a time to relax.  With some members staying just a few days and others two weeks. there is a lot of time to fill. While many will be riding the dunes, some members take to the back roads to check out the scenery and even the yard sales.

A large part of the group will venture farther north to the town of Pentwater to check out the shops and surrounding areas.  This trip is never complete until everyone ends up at the Antler Bar for lunch and of course a couple of cold ones.  Naturally there are a couple from the group who don't like shopping so they get to the "Antler" first.

Okay so not everything we do is in the sand but at least technically this is off road.  Here Bill, Glen, and Doug eagerly await the return of their wives while visiting the "Antler Bar" in Pentwater Michigan

Not all our time is spent riding.  We do like to stop and enjoy the sunsets on Lake Michigan every chance we get.

Everybody had to check out Doug's new Chevy motor.  Or were they checking the oil leak or the seventh broken belt.  Can't wait for that serpentine belt can you buddy?

The following photos were sent in by IOK member Toby Kelly.  As you can see everybody has a good time.  Thanks Toby!
